Do you motivate yourself by…
- comparing yourself to others and coming up short?
- remembering how you blew things in the past to avoid doing that again?
- thinking about what will happen in the future if you DON’T get something done?
- criticizing yourself?
Each one of those actually uses different forms of fear to self-motivate.
The Tricky Part –
- Fear DOES motivate you.
- It works pretty well (for a while).
- It’s what you’ve always done
- You’re not quite sure what else to do.
- You really don’t want to fail so…
You keep motivating yourself with…FEAR.
But eventually, you start to feel…
- stressed
- exhausted
- resentful
- less than
- burned out
- discouraged
- underconfident
- all of the above
and you may start to experience symptoms like insomnia, exhaustion, depression, headaches, digestive issues, maybe even anxiety attacks.
If any of this sounds familiar, you might be a perfectionist. It’s great to pursue excellence – as we perfectionists do.
But your happiness, your ability to work well with other people, and even your sustained success all depend on HOW you motivate yourself.
So, how do you motivate yourself without those harsh, perfectionist ways?
Motivate yourself with your soul’s purpose. Joy! Dreams of what you want…
Just not by writing the dream down and saying affirmations about it or even just seeing it in your mind.
Research shows –
The most effective way to motivate yourself and manifest what you want is to image in detail how having what you want feels. (You heard me right – your daydreaming skills, the ones that used to help you procrastinate, will finally work FOR you now!)
Perfectionism and fear are tricksters. If you’re ready to release them, maybe it’s time you work with me to find out about the four major causes of perfectionism and how you can get out from under them.
I held a masterclass in June and covered this topic. If you are ready to chat about your motivators, consider setting up a FREE Get Unstuck call to find out how I can help.
