Not so long ago, I was overwhelmed and out of answers. So I did what I sometimes tell others to do: asked the Universe for direct guidance. I meditated, felt my connection with Source, presented my question, and asked for a sign. You need to be specific when asking for signs. I chose dragons.
“If this is the path I should follow,” I told the Universe, “please show me dragons these next few days.” Any dragon, I meant – a picture in a magazine, someone’s necklace, a cloud that looks dragony.
Then I said to myself, “Things like this never work for me.”
And I went on my way, with equal amounts of doubt and hope in my heart. (Often accused of being too logical when in rooms of intuitive healer types and too woo-woo when in rooms of logical academic types, I get a bit confused doing exercises like this.)
And guess what? No dragons. A couple of days passed. Do dinosaurs count, maybe? No, I decided. I would have accepted a sea monster. But it didn’t matter, because I didn’t see any of those things. Life went on, dragonless.
A former student who’s started her own healing business emailed me her newsletter, and I emailed her back in perfect teacher form, telling her how insightful it was and what a wonderful healer she is.
The next day, she emailed me again: “Did you notice my new logo?”
I sighed. “I don’t have time for this,” I thought, but because I love my clients and students, and also I’m kind of a sucker, I looked back at her newsletter again and searched for the logo.
A dragon.
She hadn’t said “Do you like my new logo?” She’d said “Did you notice my new logo?”
And I had not. Why? Because I followed my request, “Please show me dragons,” immediately with “Things like this never work for me.”
My subconscious didn’t know which to go with.
But Source has known me a long time and is incredibly loving and patient. I actually like to imagine angels rolling their eyes and putting their heads in their hands: “Yup, you were right, Gabriel, she missed it. Aurora, nudge that girl to email it again.”
What signs are you missing? What part of your subconscious will you go with? The doubt or the hope?
Even if you go with doubt, fear not. The Universe never runs out of patience, chances, or dragons. Source is in every atom within you and around you. Just ask, and you’ll receive – even if you need a do-over.
